For more than 50 years, the name CHAIN has been synonymous with Australian blues and boogie rock of the highest calibre. The 1972 version of the band – Phil Manning (guitar, vocals), Warren Morgan (piano, vocals), Glyn Mason (guitar, vocals), Barry ‘Big Goose’ Sullivan (bass) and Barry ‘Little Goose’ Harvey (drums) – recorded Live Again in a one-night session at Channel GTV9 Melbourne, T.C.S. (Television City Sound) with John French as the engineer..

As Phil recalls: “The album was basically done in a night. We took all our friends, our wives, our respective girlfriends into the studio. Billy Thorpe was there, Lobby was there. I think Paul Wheeler may have been there. We had lots of people there that weren’t in the band. You could hardly see from one side of the studio to the other. It was like a scene out of a Cheech and Chong movie, you know? There was so much dope being smoked and everyone was so out of it. And look, I can’t remember but we were probably drinking as well. It was basically just a great big fucking party!”

At one stage, Warren chides the assembled party, “hey, this is very serious blues”. Of the six tracks that comprise the album, there are the long expressionistic tracks, ‘Take Your Time’ and ‘The World is a Rocky Impression’, which allow all the band members to take solos, very much a Chain thing. The shorter, more song-oriented material, such as Morgan’s ‘Pig’s Blues’, Mason’s protest song ‘Mr. President’ and Manning’s sprightly, anti-pollution message song ‘Leaving’, add the right touches to the overall sound.

The five Bonus live tracks come from a 1970 session, when this version of the band originally played together. It was the same line-up as heard on the first Chain album, Live Chain (Aztec (AVSCD052).
